It was a very tough competition with only 2 winners and 2 highly commended from each year group receiving an award on the night.
Years 1 to 6 took part in the competition and Mrs Willenbrook was amazed at the fantastic entries and awards given to every child that took part.
A huge well done and who knows, maybe you will be the next great Engineer!

Eight of our year 6 children attended an A.I.M. High Writing Day at Rosewood Primary School.T he A.I.M. High programme is tailored for children to be able to – Achieve, Inspire and Master. A.I.M. High delivers high quality, aspirational and deepening learning experiences to children who demonstrate a particular talent or flair and have the potential to work far beyond their current level.

The author running the event was Andy Craven-Griffiths. Andy is a writer, rapper, musician and educator based in Leeds. He has performed poetry most extensively on stage (Glastonbury, Latitude, BAC), but has also had work broadcast (Radio 1, Radio 4, BBC2) and printed in poetry journals. The children had a great day and produced some fantastic poems.

Construction!

In our local environment there is a building site.

Hartbeeps

Nursey and EYFS had a visit from Hartbeeps. We used our listening ears to find different parts of our bodies, met some new friends and told the story The Three Little Pigs. We had a fantastic time and have even begun to make some of our own houses inspired by the story.

Burnley Youth Theatre

In history, year 2 are learning about significant people. Burnley Youth theatre visited and taught the children about Marcus Rashford and his achievements. Through drama, the children learnt about his early life, his footballing career and how he has campaigned for change regarding free school meals for the poorest children. The children found his story inspiring.

Scott Park

Reception went to visit Scott Park as part of their Autumn topic. This was to see seasonal changes and explore the local environment. We had a walk around the park, met a park keeper, collected some autumn objects and even played on the playground, before finally rolling down the hill and setting off back to Cherryfold. There were lots of smiles all around and the children talked about their favourite parts once back at school. Olivia said, 'I loved throwing the leaves'. Jayden said, 'I liked seeing the tractor'.

Round Our Way

Round Our Way is a community project, in its third phase, funded by Lancashire Violence Reduction Network and delivered by Westend Community Centre.
Working with Cherry Fold Primary School, Coal Clough Academy and Burnley Youth Theatre, the project is redefining what South West Burnley means to its community and their hopes and dreams for the future.  Since March, the groups have been working with poets, artists and drama practitioners to create an exciting performance exploring the definition of their community as "Non-Judgemental"  "Supportive" and "Diverse" (as voted by in a community ballot in May 2021)
Many of our current year 6 children have been involved in this project and this term, 12 children completed the third phase of the project, culminating in an amazing performance at Burnley Youth Theatre.

Magic Fest

We are involved in a project seeking to develop literacy skills through magic! This term, we have had our second visit from the Magic Fest crew. We were introduced to a range of new magic tricks, some of which we have learnt and adapted to create our own unique tricks. We also had an opportunity to demonstrate a range of tricks we have been learning in class since September. We were also shown how to present a trick effectively to capture the audience’s attention.

Burnley Youth Theatre

Burnley Youth Theatre came into work with Year 4 and immersed us into our new English Novel ‘Rumaysa’ through a range of drama techniques. The children worked together in teams to create parts of the forest where the story is set, they created freeze frames of the Tower were Rumaysa was held captive and acted out several scenes from Chapter 1.

Year 2 also had a visitor from Burnley Youth Theatre and enjoyed doing drama activities. They explored locations around the world and their animals. It was a perfect end to our ‘Animal Antics’ unit.
