What a start to Spring 1!
Nursery have been reading 'The 3 Little Pigs'. We started our story by having the wolf visit Nursery and blow down our home corner. He dropped straw everywhere! We have learnt about heavy and light and what objects can be blown away. We have learnt what huff and puff means. We have investigated the wolf and made a wanted poster to describe him. We even had a think about how the wolf could make friends with the pigs. We made pictures by huffing and puffing to make bubbles. Ask us about the story and what happens!

Nursery have had a huge interest in buses and soup making. We have combined this interest and we went on our school minibus to the local supermarket. We made a shopping list and bought ingredients to make vegetable soup! We had such a good time. The soup was delicious!!
We loved having our parents and carers in for a festive stay and play!
Welcome to Nursery
We are ‘The Little Stars’
We follow the Cherry Fold values: Enjoy, Respect, Succeed!
Welcome to CherryFold Primary School's nursery class where you will find Miss Hann (Nursery Teacher), Mrs Cullen and Mrs Pilling (Learning Support Assistants). We are also sometimes known as the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
During your time in our nursery you will meet new friends, develop your independence skills, grow in confidence as well as learning lots of new exciting things.
In nursery you can attend the morning or afternoon session. We also offer 30 hours education. In nursery we learn lots of new things and we like to learn through play. We build confidence and develop relationships with our friends and teachers. We take part in small group work to learn phonics, numbers, sing songs and lots of other things. We focus on speaking and listening skills, fine and gross motor skills and working as a team.
To support you on your learning journey, we hope that you will get help from your parents and carers. They can talk to you about your nursery day, encourage you to be independent in your personal hygiene and dressing, such as putting on your own coat, and they can read a story to you before you go to bed.
We use Class Dojo to send pictures and messages home about what you have been doing and all the fantastic achievements you have made!
We want you to have fun whilst learning. Remember - Enjoy, Respect, Succeed!
Please encourage your child to hold any mark making tools in their dominant hand and between their thumb and index finger.
Please sing songs with your children and ensure they have a story each night before bed.
Please encourage daily counting with your child and looking at shapes in the environment. Talk about the sides and corners the shapes have.
Please have daily conversations with your child about what they do at Nursery each day. This encourages their conversational skills.
Independence is a key skill in Nursery. Please encourage your child to put their own coat on and take it off.

Topic- Traditional Tales
This half term we will be reading 3 key Traditional Tales. We will be exploring the repetitive language and how the story starts and ends. The children will be exploring the setting, characters and plot. We will be exploring who was right and who was wrong in the story as well as using words to describe some of the character’s key features. We will be exploring different occupations, recipes for breakfast ideas and making props to act out the stories. The children will continue to develop their number knowledge as well as learning about size, weight and possible language. The children will be exploring different forces and commenting on changes they can see. We will explore our local environment and begin to choose materials to create a model, using a range of joining techniques. We will continue with our phase 1 phonics and focus on listening and remembering sounds. This will link to voice sounds, alliteration and rhythm and rhyme. The children will continue to develop their understanding of routines and we will begin to extend focus times and group times.
In Nursery we encourage positive behaviour and talk about what is acceptable and unacceptable. We also use a star chart system and when your child receives 10 stars they will get a prize.
