The School Day
The School Day
Our school day begins at 8:40am, when children settle into purposeful early morning activities before registration at 8:55am. These sessions are engaging and educational, helping children focus and feel ready for the day ahead. During this time, children self-register and choose their lunch option.
Following registration, the morning learning begins with focused maths groups to develop key concepts, followed by Guided Reading. Children then continue with Phonics or Spelling, English, and Maths.
After lunch, pupils take part in a range of exciting cross-curricular lessons across the foundation subjects.
- Key Stage 1 pupils have a morning break and a short afternoon break.
- Key Stage 2 pupils have one break time during the day.
- All classes also take part in our flexible ‘Mile a Day’ initiative to support health and wellbeing.
The school day finishes at 3:15pm.
In total, children receive 32 hours and 55 minutes of learning each week.
Breakfast and After School Clubs
We also offer a range of extra curricular clubs – see our extra curricular clubs page
Speaking With Staff
Members of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) are available in the playground before and after school. Teachers are also available at classroom doors at the start and end of the day.
If you would like a more in-depth or private conversation, please arrange an appointment through the school office.
If You Are Late
Morning Arrival
If your child arrives after 9:00am, they must enter through the front office, as classroom registers will have closed. Office staff will update the register.
- Children arriving between 9:00am and 9:30am will be recorded as late.
- Children arriving after 9:30am will receive an unauthorised absence mark for the morning session.
- Ten unauthorised sessions may result in a penalty notice in line with Local Authority guidance.
Please note: If your child arrives after 9:00am and has a school meal, they will be allocated the default lunch option for that day (usually a jacket potato).
Afternoon Collection
If you are going to be late collecting your child, please telephone the school office as soon as possible. If we do not hear from you, a member of staff will contact you. Children will wait safely in the office until they are collected.
If someone different is collecting your child:
- You must inform the school in advance.
- The person collecting must know your agreed password.
Children under the age of 16, or those wearing school uniform, are not permitted to collect pupils unless exceptional circumstances have been agreed by the Headteacher.
For children in Years 3–6, written permission must be provided if you would like your child to walk home independently.
Appointments
Wherever possible, please arrange medical and other appointments outside of school hours to minimise disruption to your child’s learning.
If this cannot be avoided, the school office must be provided with written evidence of the appointment (for example, a letter, appointment card or text confirmation) at least 24 hours in advance in order to guarantee early collection from school.
Thank you for your support in helping us protect valuable learning time.
