I would just like to share with all you Wonderful Parents/Guardians how your amazing support with Family Learning Session, has allowed me to become an Ambassador for Cherry Fold Family Learning Sessions. I work in partnership with Lancashire Adult Learning and talk at conferences about how enjoyable all our sessions are and how much they are supported by you. Ready Steady School:

It’s been an unsettling year for lots of families, and starting at ‘big’ school can be exciting and daunting for parents and children alike! Come along and learn top tips to get you and your family ‘school ready!”. During this short course you will have the opportunity to explore how to best prepare your child for school including developing an awareness of the Early Years Foundation Stage and reception year.

 

Create a Story Sack:

Zoom Course- Monday 7th June x 5 weeks12:30-2:30pm

This is a fun, practical online course that will give parents and carers the opportunity to create a 'Story Sack' for their child to enjoy at home.  It will give parents the chance to get creative by making games, activities and props to accompany the chosen 'story book' and identify how using the contents of the sack helps promote a love of reading and develop a child's literacy skills. Suitable for parents/ carers of children aged 3-7yrs. FREE resource pack included so you can create your story sack at home!

 

Look Who's Talking: Speech & Language:

During this free course, you will have the opportunity to explore a range of speaking and listening activities that Early Year’s children are taught, these activities are aimed to develop your awareness as a family about communication skill, including: speaking, listening, interacting and understanding skills at home.
The course uses animal themed games/ activities, (including singing/ rhyme/ craft/ repetition), to encourage and develop speaking and listening skills. You will increase your skills and confidence to support your child’s speech and language development at home.

Zoom Course- Wednesday 9th June x 5 weeks, 9:30-11:30am

The unpredictability of this year has meant that lots of parents/ carers are concerned that the Coronavirus lockdown may have impacted their child's learning. This course aims to help improve the phonics and reading skills of children in Reception and Year 1. Over the 5 weeks, the course will enable you to develop your confidence, knowledge and skills around how you can support your children's emerging literacy skills. Its full of ideas, activities, games and resources you can use with your children at home. FREE resource pack provided.

Moving On: Year 7 Maths

Is your child heading to high school or already attends one? Do you struggle to support them in Maths? If you answered yes to either of those questions why not enrol onto Moving to Year 7 Maths. This course allows parents to grasp the key areas in secondary Maths like, Algebra, Trigonometry, Pythagoras theorem, Ratio and proportion. Don't let all this terminology scare you! This course will guide you step by step in how to tackle questions in these topics and how you can support your child at home. These easy and simplified tutorials will bring out the mathematician in you!


 

You've Got This: Health and Wellbeing for 8-11yr Olds

At a time of constant change and uncertainty, parents, carers, and children are at risk of suffering emotional and mental health challenges. This three-week online course covers practical strategies, tips, activities and ideas to support your child during this unsettling time. You’ll have the opportunity to ask questions and learn how to further support your child with their wellbeing in a friendly supportive environment.

School Holiday Activites to keep your kids healthy and active

If your child is aged 5 to 16 and gets benefits-related free school meals, you may be able to access free activities during the Summer and Christmas holidays through Fun, Food and Friends, Burnley's holiday activities and food programme.

The programme is a great opportunity for children and young people to get out and about and get active.

We are working with local providers to make sure there are lots of things available to do in the Summer and Christmas holidays such as sport, creative activities, trips out and lots more!

Activities will help you learn more about nutrition as a family too and will give you the chance to have a go at cook tasty family meals at no cost to you.

We also want to help you and your children develop your understanding of nutrition and food budgeting. Activity providers will also be able to help signpost you to additional information and support, on things such as health, employment and education.

We've lots of new courses starting this half term based on feedback from schools and families, including a Saturday Event, after-school online clubs and various parents only courses, one in particular, Phonics and Early Reading Skills, has been requested by various schools to help support parents of children in reception and year 1. Summer Sow and Grow for Families

Saturday 8th May, 1pm-2:30pmor primary school aged children and their parents/ carers.

     

Join the Family Learning team on our FREE, online Summer Sow and Grow for Families and have a go at growing your own flowers and salads. You will also take part in our, 'How Tall Can You Grow' Sunflower Challenge and make some fantastic natural art creations!  A free resource pack is provided before the event.

Wed 28th April x 3 weeks, 4-4.45pm for primary school aged childrenand their parents and carers

Our family LEGO club is designed to guide and encourage your children to look at planning and creating models with Lego whilst having fun as a family. The course will focus on completing challenges at home as a family with guidance from the teachers. Start encouraging and promoting creativity and engineering at a young age by enrolling onto our Mini Lego club course!

Join us as a Family and help your child develop crucial STEM (Science, technology, engineering and Maths) skills! World Book Day

 

World Book Day – Online Free Sessions with Lancashire Adult Learning As home- schooling is set to continue for a couple more weeks, Lancashire Adult Learning has developed 3 themed sessions based around World Book Day for parents/ carers and their children to sign up to, have some fun and hopefully ignite or further develop a passion for reading. Food Bank

Hi Everyone, I hope you are keeping safe and well. I have some information regarding Food Banks. If you are struggling and need a bit of extra help with food supplies St Matthews Church provide them on Saturday Mornings between 9 and 11 am see the attached leaflet, or you can ring and self-refer to Burnley Together on 01282-686402. I also have numbers for other providers please feel free to contact school who will happily inform me of the referral, and I can organise for the next day. Take Care Miss Heys.

INVEST Award

 

School have just been awarded the INVEST award through Lancashire Education Awards for 'Developing Parental Partnerships through Family Learning'. This we could not have achieved without the fantastic support of all you parents, carers and extended family members who attend our  Family Learning Sessions throughout the year. I would personally like to thank you all for your continued support, I have a huge variety of sessions planned for next year for the children/parent sessions as well as Maths, English, First Aid and many more courses for the adults.
